T In The Park review Headlining the second stage. Sunday 12th ASH, on the other hand embrace the bright lights of the here and now like excited children on Christmas Eve. OK, so their music is obsessed with Eighties hardcore - "Numbskull" could have been snogged by Fugazi's ancestors Minor Threat , "Petrol" could be Senseless Things off the wrist - but it's still bright with the gibbering excitement of possibility. New tracks like "Season" * and "Wild Surf" combine classic atom-splitting tunes with some aggressive power chords surfing air like renegades from "Point Blank". Ash rock. Tim Wheeler plays a flying V guitar with no sense of irony, and the band have few self-conscious moments. Which is why their own version of history, unlike so many other here today sounds fresh and honest. Martin James
