John was born in 1942 in Dublin,
Ireland. A natural left-hander he was always drawing and sketching
throughout his school years.
He received a couple of lessons in oil painting from his friend, the
artist Martin McLarnon. Other than that he is self-taught.
In 199 John realised his ambition to become a professional painter/artist in
his first full year of painting. He achieved this with assistance from The Faerie Thorn Gallery (Carrick-on-Shannon,
Co. Leitrim), Clan Art Enniskillen (Co. Fermanagh, N.I.), Una Bahn
(King House, Boyle, Co. Roscommon) and Ballyfarnon House.
John's work
is also on display, and for sale, at the Blackrock Market Gallery,
Blackrock, Co. Dublin. Additionally, his paintings are in
collections in Ireland, England, Germany, Italy and the United
States.
Painting is something John loves to do. When he paints the idea of
the subject is important, but not as important as the thought of the
energy conveyed by the subject matter itself.
“All life is energy and my primary thought is that my work conveys
an aspect of this energy to the observer, the primary one of quiet
and peace and a deep love of life; a dawning, an awareness from
within the observer that I am here, all is well.
