Buncrana was once the chief stronghold of the O'Doherty Clan, Lords of Inishowen and their Castle Keep still survives today. The keep was built in 1430 and is still in relatively good condition near the castle bridge. There are Spanish, French, English and Vikings all mentioned in our colourful History. The great Conte di Tirone vanished into the night seaward with the Flight of the Earls after the failure of Kinsale in 1607.

,The great ships of the Spanish armada sank in the rough sea's that ravish our coast. The end of General Theobald Wolfe Tone was witnessed from our shores in 1798.
