Buncrana was once the chief stronghold of the O'Doherty Clan, Lords of Inishowen and their Castle Keep still survives today. The keep was built in 1430 and is still in relatively good condition near the castle bridge. There are Spanish, French, English and Vikings all mentioned in our colourful History. The great Conte di Tirone vanished into the night seaward with the Flight of the Earls after the failure of Kinsale in 1607. |
