Bennettsbridge (Droichead Bheinéid) is known as the craft centre
of Ireland. The a many excellent potteries, leather works and jewellers in
the area. Best known are Nicholas Mosse, Stoneware Jackson and Cestnau
Leathers. The Mosse pottery is located in the old Mosse flour mill (
established in 1820). There is an excellent craft shop and cafe, windows
to the workshop allow craftsmen working on the pottery to be observed.
The village itself is set on the River Nore half-way between Thomastown and Kilkenny city. The bridge across the river is at the centre of the village. The original bridge was swept away in a flood in 1763 The are some fine pubs, cafes and restaurants in the village, an essential visit during your stay at the Coachouse.
