Thomastown is set on the River Nore half-way between The Coachouse and Kilkenny city. Thomastown is famous for the Mount Juliet Golf Course one of the top four courses in the country, set in beautiful parkland beside the Mount Juliet Hotel.
The village itself is very pretty with some fine views of the river Nore.
Jerpoint Abbey, one of the finest of the Cistercian monastries (now in ruins) lies just outside Thomastown on the main Waterford road. Nearby is the Jerpoint glassworks making some of the most beautiful glassware to be found.
The are some fine pubs, cafes and restaurants in the village, Sylks is a particularly good restaurant well worth a visit. There is an Irish music festival each year during August.
