One of the top goalkeepers in the country, Devine signed for Waterford from Cobh Ramblers for a club record fee in July '97 where he spent the previous 4 seasons. Spent 4 years at Middlesbrough as an apprentice and 6 months at Newcastle United. Won Schoolboy caps at Under 15 & 16 levels. Voted National League Goalkeeper of the Year in the First Division 1996/97 and Waterford United Player of The Year in 1998/99 having kept a magnificent run of eight clean sheets.
