Phil is a former Welsh U23 international and was one of the first players Dave Barry signed after becoming manager of Cork City in 1996. Originally signed by City in 1988 from Welsh outfit Rhyl, Phil made the goalkeeping position his own for almost a decade, winning a championship medal in 1993. Currently goalkeeping coach at the club.
