Cross Stadium, home of the Munster Football Association
and Cork City FC is located on Curragh Road in Turners
Cross. Coming from the city centre, you can get there
on foot in about 20/25 minutes, on the number 3 bus (70p)
which stops right outside the ground, or by taxi which
will cost you about three or four pounds. For anyone driving,
there's plenty of parking on the roads around the ground,
but if there's also a match on at nearby Musgrave Park
we would advise you to come early.
There are two entrances to the ground –
the entrance to the stand is next to the Horseshoe Inn,
whereas access to the terraces is through the turnstiles.
The club shop can be found alongside the stand, while
programmes (£1) can be bought inside or outside
the ground from programme sellers. Most matches are all
ticket, but if you haven't bought one in one of the outlets
around Cork before the game, they can also be bought outside
the ground at mobile units on the day of the match, although
the stand can be sold out for big games. Stand tickets
cost £6, while a spot on the terrace will cost you
a fiver (£3 for juveniles).
The ground can hold somewhere in the region
of 11,000 people, 1,850 of which are seated in the stand.
There is special provision for people in wheelchairs alongside
the stand. The only part of terracing which is covered
at the moment is The Shed, home to the more vocal City
fans. The other two sides of the ground have open terracing,
though plans are in place to cover and seat both sections.
Floodlights are also due to be installed in the near future.
There are a number of pubs in the area.
The Horseshoe Inn is right beside the entrance to the
ground and away supporters are usually found here before
and after games. City fans are also found there and Frankie
Sull's, which is across the road from the church, is another
popular spot. The players can be found in either after
the games. Up the road towards town is The Beer Garden,
The Mountain Bar and The Evergreen. There are normally
two mobile chippers outside the ground which disappear
pretty quickly after the game. Dino's chipper is near
the church, and Lennox's is a 10/15 minute walk, but well
worth it as it serves by far the best chips in the city.
