Welcome! Apologies to anyone who visited this site and found some of the links not working. Things should be better now.
This site is about encouraging a sensible attitude towards drugs. We're NOT encouraging anyone to load up on every drug they can find and go on a rampage. Just relax. The main drug I personally am concerned about is that wonderful useful herb they call cannabis.
If you aren't mad busy, do us a favour. I'm trying to get Eamonn Dunphy to discuss cannabis on his radio show on Today FM. Dunphy has openly said that he enjoys cannabis, but I don't recall him discussing much on air. If a lot of people contact him on the subject maybe he will discuss it. That might be good for the legalise movement.
The comment phone line opens at 4.45. It's 1850 715100. But you have
more chance of getting through on the email:
Email: lastword@todayfm.com
Stuart Carolyn is the main researcher. Email scarolyn@todayfm.com
Or if you want to talk directly to the reserachers, try : 01 8049000
Just a quick email will be fine. If they get a coupla hundred emails, they might do something.
The main action on the legalisation front is through the Cannabis Ireland Alliance website and discussion list. Check out www.cannabisireland.com. It's got an excellent page on reasons to legalise.
To get onto the discussion list directly, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ie-cannabis.
A website with a great review of the legal situation around cannabis is the Stoners Unite/Eire Cannabis Coalition at: http://www.angelfire.com/hi/stonersunite/ecc.html . Stoner's Unite also offers a FREE seed exchange.

Some news:
Some politicians answer on medical cannabis:
On www.paddydoyle.com there's a petition form to send emails to some public representataives. I did it and these are the replies they sent. Note that three of them support the use of cannabis for medical reasons.
1. I am directed by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr Michael McDowell, T.D., to refer to your e-mail in relation to the legalisation of cannabis for medical use. I have forwarded your correspondence to the office of the Minister for Health and Children, Mr Micheál Martin, T.D., who has responsibility for this matter. Yours sincerely, Maura Donagher,pp Private Secretary
2. Thank you for your email. I support the legalisation of cannabis for medical use. Best wishes, Liz. (McManus), Labour Party
3. Many thanks for your e-mail. The Green Party supports the use of cannabis for medical purposes. John Gormley, Green Party TD
4. Thank you for your e-mail re: cannabis for medical use. I understand that the Minister for Health will respond positively to any application for a licence to use cannabis for medical research purposes in this country but so far no medical person/body has so applied. I have raised this matter myself on several occasions in the Dail. Regards TONY GREGORY T.D.
If you get any comments either way from public representatives, send
them here and we'll make a collection.
What are people smoking (Autumn 2002) :
A selection of comments from the cannabis-ie list:
****Morning people, Just wondering what people are smoking in Ireland
these days. What types of hash - (soapbar / polm / black hash) and weed
(african / imported skunk / home produced skunk) or other exotica. ? Finding
African weed in the capital myself + keeping away from that
soapbar stuff. Peace.
****Everything possible... I havnt come across any soapbar yet though (lucky me....)
****all i smoke is weed. I don't like the heaviness of the high in hash the risk of 'soapbar' shit or the burning in. Rolling with grass just feels healthy like having a shower or a bath. Most of my shit is african of origin
****over the summer there was this white widow or sommat, almost all bud, mongable, great shtuff
**** the outer bark of stalks, small stalks, a tiny bit of old soap
bar I had forgotten about, and some bud from hemp I grew last year

J-Day!
J-Day is a day where a whole bunch of people get together and celebrate the cannabis plant. There was one in 2001, and this year it was held on May4th - a great day, nice weather, low key cop presence.
I didn't stay for the whole event, but I am assured it continued jolly.
No arrests, tho the cops did move through the crowd at one point. People were asked to pour out beer and some people had their names taken for openly smoking, as cops were walking past.
As I was leaving, maybe around 4 o'clock, I heard a huge roar rising like a football roar. Then another huge cheer. Apparently the police were trying to take a plant from somebody. but when they heard the roar of the crowd, they changed their minds, and things stayed relaxed.
If you were there, and would like to give people a better idea of what it was like, send an email.
I'm totally into the idea of doing this again.
Check out the Cannabis Ireland Alliance website:
Some political party views on cannabis:
(taken from the CIA mailing list)
From the PD's:
"...The Progressive Democrats have given no commitments in our manifesto
to change the law in relation to cannabis..."
From Fine Gael:
"...Fine Gael is opposed to the legalisation of Cannabis..." but Young
Fine Gael at one stage were in favour of legalising it.
Both the Socialist Party and the Socialist Worker Party apparently support legalisation
A Sinn Fein councillor and an SF election candidate told me that they
privately supported legalisation, but could not say so in public because
it was against party policy. One said he had tried to get policy changed
at annual conference, but was voted down.
Around the world.....

Apparently, there's a couple more coffee shops opening in the UK. Dunno
if it's true but check out www.ukcia.org for the latest news from across
the pond.
