AN EDUCATIONAL AND FUN OUTING FOR YOUR SCHOOL CLASS, CRECHE OR MONTESSORI GROUP.
FARM ANIMALS TOUR
The farm tour offers close access to a wide variety of farm animals
and pets. Here children can learn about the various animals that live
on the farm and see them look after their young. They can hold smaller
pets (such as rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, etc) and get to learn
what they are like to have as pets. There is a 350 year old thatched
cottage which offers an insight into how our ancestors lived. There is
an outdoor playground overlooking the farm and suitable for children
up to 12 years old. Lots of outdoor picnic areas mean that the children
can enjoy a picnic in the countryside. Or, for the not so perfect Irish day,
there is a large indoor seated picnic area.
On arrival at the farm the school children are assigned their farm guide
and are taken on a guided farm tour for approximately 1 hour. Their guide
will also answer any questions they have about the animals on the farm. After
their tour they are free to have their picnic or go back around the
animals or have some fun time in the outdoor playground.
THE NATURE TRAIL (SUITABLE FOR 2nd CLASS AND UPWARDS)
The nature trail starts from the open farm and runs for 1 km (each way)
towards the coastline. Here the children can learn about the diversity
of habitats on the farm (from woodlands to hedgerows and marshes) and
find out about the animals that live in the wild on the
farm (such as badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, etc.). The walk takes
you to the marshlands adjacent to Kilcoole beach - a wetland that
holds a diverse array of birdlife, flora and fauna. Along the walk are
various stops of interest as well as a sensory garden where the children
can listen to the bird sounds while enjoying the plants of the
senses. A secret garden set in the woodland will capture
the imagination of every child.
