Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland

Club Run To Galway
| This trip was organised by Dave Calvin, the head honcho of the Northern Ireland MR2 Drivers Club. 5 Cars from the Republic Of Ireland Club met up with the 4 cars from up North in Athlone and we headed off in convoy towards Galway. In true form it only took about 400 yards for us to get separated :-) One of these days we'll manage not to do this but not this time. |
| Everyone eventually made it to our base in Salthill and it was decided, almost immediately to head for the usual feeding session that has become such an integral part of all our runs at this stage. Due to a bit of a Mix-up in directions 3 of us ended up driving the mile or so to the feeding area in Salthill. This meant that the Heineken and Bud that was being enjoyed by the walkers was not an option. It was a case of one each for us. Needless to say, this just got the hunger for beer on us so it was decided that 5pm was a perfect time to go ditch the cars and hit a pub in Galway city. Oh Dear!!!!!!! There were some minor objections from Stephen (administrator of the Northern club web page) but once it was explained in plain English that he should just stop talking and leave for the pub we were back on track. |
| What followed was one of the most
ridiculous nights of drinking I have been on in a very long time. The drinking session didn't finish until after 1 am on Sunday at which point
there were various moments of madness from certain
unnamed members (you know who I'm talking about Dave Kelly and Stephen......) in which it
was decided that the Citroen 2CV that was parked
neatly should be lifted and moved into the middle of the road. |
| Speaking for myself, it was a completely brilliant night with some excellent company from the guys from North and South of the border and I just can't wait for the next one. Roll it on. |
| Thanks to Davey and the lads from up North for coming down and giving us such a great night out. We even got a chance to get some pics of the cars. So without further ado, here they are. |
