Welcome to uQarek. In #monkey-island, we don't play Quake. Quake is for wimps. We play uQarek. Apart from being a terribal spellgin errer for the word "Quake", uQarek is the home of the Scumm Bar deathmatch level in Quake. Other notable spelling errors include; Quark, uQaek, and Qwáke / Qwack, belonging to DJG, Huz, and me (Mutton) respectively. At uQarek, we will put up all the latest releases and downloads of the Scumm Bar level, some demos, and some screen shots.

scummdm.zip (582kb) scummdm.bsp 2nd January 2000 v1.5 Same as v1.4, but put in some of Huz's suggestions, such as the pentagram of protection, more start points, the lava under the shelf (although I messed up on that :(, and I also put in the spike shooter on the walls and more weapons and stuff!
scummbar-dm.zip scummdm.bsp 29th December 1999 v1.4 The first Deathmatch level that was released. It had the secret in the cliffs where the bio suit and lightning gun is, and the alley way.

scummbar.zip (490kb) scummbar.bsp 16th December 1999 v1.1 First version that was released, although there were about 20 versions before this, but I'm not going to bother listing them all :)
evolution.zip (357kb) lots The first ever compiled level, consisting of just 3 walls and a floor, then there are the next 5 levels after that to show how it developed, even though none of them are really "developed" at all. :)

uQarek Demos

Myself, Huz, DJG and Skyfox have recorded lots of fun demos but for now I'll just put up this one. The good thing about the first three demos is that we recorded it from each person's perspectives in QuakeWorld, so you can watch it from where I was playing, then see how Huz or DJG saw something that happened etc. There's a nice little ending in this one where me and Huz try to team up and get DJG in the little tunnel leading to the alley way, but unbeknowest to us, he had the pentegram of protection. Well, it was cool when we were playing it! :)
I also have a little demo that me, Huz and Skyfox recorded in the first scumm bar level, where me and Huz were blowing the head of each other and Skyfox was trying to tell some joke. A monkey, a cannibal and a pirate walked into a bar, I think it was. ;)
To use QuakeWorld demos, put the .qwd file in the /quake/qw folder, run quakeworld and type at the console: playdemo <demo name>. To tun normal .dem files, put them in your quake/id1 folder, run Quake and type the same command.

uQarek Screen Shots

Shots.zip - Some top quality screen shots that Huz got in GLQuake. It was in the orignal scummbar.bsp. For some reason, none of the new levels work in GLQuake so these screen shots are well worth the download!

A nice little screen shot DJG took of a view from the curtain looking towards the door.

An old shot taken from Worldcraft when the level was about three quarters way done I think (possibly more)... you can kinda make out some stuff like the tables in the bar.

A little animation just turning around and around in the room with the importan looking pirate's table. Fun!

uQarek Staff

The uQarek staff (staff = people who have helped and been very supportive with the level since they first heard about it.) consists of:

Huz - Was the person whose encouragement and pestering made the Scumm Bar level be released. I just started it for fun and just to see how it might turn out one day I was very bored about March 1998 but never really planned on releasing it or anything, but I sent Huz some of the old versions which didn't have any kitchen, or any water or cliffs or anything, and he made me keep making it.

DJG - Who's been continiously helping out since he first heard about the level. I had left the level for a few months because I kept getting an error and didn't know how to fix it, then he pointed me to a troubleshooting site that had the error so I got it fixed, and this was after about 4 or 5 months of the level just sitting there. DJ's also responsible for compiling the levels.

Skyfox - Has helped alot in the past aswell and plays little games of uQarek with us all every now and then!

Other uQarek players so far include Mort-Hog, Myst, Lord_Rand, and Spaff.

Oh yeah, and me.
