Tallaght Stadium

For those of you who have been sun-bathing on Mars for the past couple of years Rovers, backed by new chairman Joe Colwell, have been trying to build a stadium in Tallaght. But things did not go as expected and Rover's plans were delayed by local objectors.

After getting planning permission from the South Dublin County Council, the objectors brought their case to An Bord Peanala and a number of restrictions were placed on the stadium, including no Friday night games and reducing the capacity from 10,000 to 6,000. Still unhappy, the objectors pursued their course further by taking their case to the High Court. But on Monday, 2nd November Shamrock Rovers F.C. were told that the objections had been dropped, finally giving them the green light for their plans.

Of course, when newly elected members of South Dublin County Council deferred a decision on a car park license, all our fears were raised again. Thankfully they saw sense and on the 8th November 1999 voted in favour of granting the Hoops the license they required to build a car park.
