Saints of the Parish


There are four Saints connected to the parish of Kilcolman.They are called Saint Ita,Saint Colman,Saint Pulcherius or Mochoemog and Saint Abhan.The name Ita can appear in different forms Ita has been known as Mida,Ide,Ita and Mide.Saint Ita is supposed to have been a descendant of the princes of Decies of Waterford.He was born in 484 AD.Saint Colman was probably a son of Aengus.
      He had connections with Kinnitty.He lived at the same as St Brendan of Birr.Colman comman Saint's name.There are around fifty St Colmans in Ireland.Saint Colman lived around 570 AD.The third Saint was Saint Pulcheruis.Saint Pulcheruis was a son of Nessa.Nessa was a sister of Saint Ita.Pulcher is the Latin word for fair or beautiful.His other name was Mochoemog.
      Mo is the Irish word for my, choem for beautiful ,and og for young or boy.So Mochoemog meant my beautiful boy.The position of his monastery in Kilcolman is not known. Saint Abhan the fourth Saint was a son of Cormac.Cormac was a king of Leinster.He lived in the sixth century.There is no know monastry here in the parish of Kilcolman which belonged to him.He died in Wexford.
