| In 1831 the first National
Schools were built. But at this time there was already some education in
Kilcolman. In 1837 there were six private schools in Kilcolman. There were
185 children in all six Schools. A man called Mr. Synge had a school in
Mountmask at this time. The first National schools were built in the parish
of Kilcolman in 1888. These were called Ballyegan and Coolderry school.
These schools were abandoned in 1967 and used as Halls by the parish. Then two prefabs were built at the same time. Coolderry Central School was then built in 1983. It cost over £200,000. Gloster Secondary school was begun in 1958. Gloster secondary School opened in 1958 but it closed in 1987 when the Salesian nuns decided to leave. Researched by |
