The bishop came to Coolderry before ten o’clock. He said Mass in Coolderry at exactly ten o’clock. When Mass was over, we went into the hall for tea and sandwiches. When everyone was finished his or her tea everyone went outside to get ready for the walk. We left Coolderry after eleven o’clock. There were all different ages of people walking. There were children from first class up walking, but not everyone from Coolderry School walked. There was a Protestant Bishop from Limerick walking with us too. Fr. Slattery the Parish Priest walked as well. On the way there was one car in front of us all the way with an orange light on the top of the car. We had to walk on the left side of the road. |

| There were also a few cars behind us as
well. They all had lights on the top of the car. It was a really bad day
for walking. We walked at least three or four miles. All of the small children
were way ahead of the rest of the group of walkers. People joined in on
the walk on the way. People parked their cars at Kilcolman Church and walked
up to us to meet us then they turned around and walked back with us. Mr.
Bates gave us his camera to sixth class to take a few pictures of the people
walking. But it was very dark, the pictures were all right, but was a bit
too dark. When we got near the church we could see people waiting for us.
Some people were waiting for us in the church. There were two servers in
Kilcolman too. We were half an hour behind, because we were supposed to
get to Kilcolman at half past twelve and we got to the church at one o’clock.
But it didn’t make any real difference.
We all went inside the church. We said a few prayers. Then we got handed a piece of paper with the Pilgrimage Prayer on it. When all the prayers were over, we were all invited to the Black Bull pub for some soup and sandwiches. The soup was delicious. There was brown bread, salad sandwiches and chicken and turkey sandwiches. Fr. Slattery paid for everything we ate. The soup warmed everyone up. When everyone was finished their soup they went home to change out of their wet clothes. At two o’clock the bishop left Kilcolman. And headed into Birr for four o’clock. The walk was brilliant, but only for the rain it was great. Everyone liked the walk. It was very tiring. It was good and everyone enjoyed the walk. By Aoife Corcoran. |
