Confirmation Day
Friday the 19th of March was a very exciting day for the children of Kinnity and Kilcolman Parishes. Each year the parishes come together for Confirmation in different churches. This year it was in Coolderry church. People from all over the parish halped in the preparation. For example, Mrs mc Carthy conducted and prepared the choir. Women organised food in the hall. We had had a retreat for a half day with Fr. Carroll,a priest from Nenagh. Sr. Essie, a nun from Birr, also came to talk to us.
On the day of the Confirmation everyone was very excited. I was first to arrive at the church. The cermony started at eleven o' clock. The bishop gave an opening speech and then Mass started as normal. After the Gospel there was the renewal of baptismal promises. The names of everyone who was making his or her Confirmation was called out and as he or she was that person stood up. Then the anointing with chrism began. The people from Kinnity went up to the altar first, then it was our turn. My God-Mother, Mary was my sponsor. After the anointing the prayers of the Faithful were read out. The children from both parishes read them. Then the bringing up of the gifts. We also played the Intermezzo on our tin-whistles. After Mass the bishop posed for photographs with the children and their families. Then everyone went to the parish hall for something small to eat before going to a restaurant for our dinner. I went to the "Thatch". Two of my friends went there also.
It was a very enjoyable day that only happens once in a lifetime
