Reflecting on the Gospel

In this Sunday’s Gospel life is oozing out of both the twelve year old girl and the woman with the hemorrhage. All of us can understand this painful human situation for we have either watched a loved one slowly lose life or we ourselves have experienced the drain of a life-threatening illness.
This Gospel leads us to reflect on the power of death over us and Jesus’ power over it. The coming of Jesus and the establishment of God’s reign restore the integrity of God’s plan for creation by turning back the effects of death. Jesus not only has the authority to heal and cast out demons and forgive sins; he also has authority over death.

Living the Life of Christ

Death not only means the cessation of physical life but also all those “everyday dyings to self’ that call us to surrender our wills to God’s will. In the Christian Mystery death is the doorway to life. Just as Jairus and the woman forgot their own stations in life in order to receive life from Jesus, so we must surrender our own wills in order to encounter Jesus and receive life. Living the Christian Life is none other than our daily dying to self __ overcoming our fears and reaching out to Jesus in humility--- in all the little practical ways that fill our daily routines.

Faith Sharing in the Home

- What are the “deaths” that face you everyday?
- How can your faith have an impact on other people’s lives?
- When do you live in faith?

JUBILEE 2000 -
KiIIaIoe Diocesan Ecumenical Sailing Event

A spccial Jubilee 2000 Committee representative of the various Christian churches in the diocese of Killaloe was given  the task of planning an appropriate Ecumenical Celebration for this Jubilee Year. They  have indeed come up with a rather imaginative p1an — an Ecumenical Sailing Event and Prayer Service to take place on Saturday 8th July.

It is not all happening on the water however. A flotilla of boats will leave from Drominecr at I.30pm. and Mountshannon at 2p.m. to arrive at Killaloe (Jetty below bridge) at 3.15pm. There we hope to be joined by other participants coming by car, bicycle or on foot! We wi11 walk to St.Flannan’s Church for a Prayer Service and pageant at 4pm. and thence to St Flannan’s Cathedral at 5.I5 p.m. for concluding service. There will be Iight refreshments at St. Anne’s College afterwards. It promises to be a day of joyful ecummenical celebration.

We ask you to recommend participation to your respective congregations this coming weekend.
