Malin 0-13 3-10 Moville

Moville progressed to the second round of the Intermediate Championship when they overcame last years beaten finalists Malin last Sunday. The Carrickmen dominated Malin for the second successive match and richly deserve their place in the last eight. The game was played in perfect conditions in front of a very large crowd with many from Moville making the trip.

Sixteen year old Sean Kelly opened the scoring for the home side but this was cancelled out by a free from Kevin Cavanagh. Damien Ward increased Malin's lead when Danny Lafferty and Paddy Kelly combined. Malin moved into a 3 point lead when Martin Lafferty pointed after a fine solo run. Moville rocked the home side when PJ Barr ran through the Malin defence and fired past a helpless Liam Lafferty in the Malin goal.

Moville had the final say in the half when Kevin Cavanagh pointed from a placed ball. Moville went in leading by the bare minimum at the break.

Sean Kelly levelled the score at the beginning of the second half but a PJ Barr point restored Movilles 1 point advantage. Martin Lafferty and Ronan Hegarty traded points. Then a Danny Lafferty fisted point levelled the game and Malin went back in front when Sean Kelly pointed from a free when Danny Lafferty was fouled. Ronan Hegarty levelled the match again when the referee awaraded a hop ball. Moville moved into a 3 point lead when PJ Barr got his second goal of the match. Brendan McGonagle pulled a point back for Malin but then the Foyle siders hit a purple patch when they notched up 1-2 in quick succession.

2 points by Seamus Hegarty, were soon followed by a goal from brother Ronan gave Moville a 7 point lead. Damien Ward pointed for Malin but Moville replied with points from PJ Barr and Sean McKinney. Damien Ward reduced the deficit but Ronan Hegarty fired over the bar to restore Movilles 8 point lead. Martin Lafferty knocked over 2 late frees but it was too little too late as Moville ran out worthy winners in a very sporting game. Moville go on to meet Robert Emmets in the quarter-finals.
