Malin produced a superb display as they overwhelmed Urris in a sun-drenched Malin Park on Sunday. Urris opened the scoring but Danny Lafferty levelled the score after being set up by his brother Martin. A Danny Lafferty free put the home side in front and the same player increased the lead after Patrick Kelly and Martin Lafferty combined.
Danny Lafferty then goaled for Malin this goal led to some confusion as the ball went through the actual net, but after conferring with his umpires the referee allowed the goal to stand. Urris hit back with 2 points and would have scored a goal but for a great save by keeper Liam Lafferty. This save spurred the home side on, as Malin raced up the field and the ball reached Shaun Kelly who blasted the ball past the keeper.
Urris narrowed the gap with a close range free but this was cancelled out by a fine solo point by Danny Lafferty who was a constant menace to the visiting defence. Malin went in at the break leading by 2.4 0.4.
Urris opened the scoring in the second half but Malin replied with a point when Shaun KeIIy broke the ball in to the path of Brendan McGonigle who fired over the bar.
Shaun Kelly struck over an excellent point to put Malin 5 points in front. Unis pointed again, this proved to be Urris' final score of the game. The midfield partnership of Patrick Kelly and Paul Doherty were in sparkling form and were giving their forwards quality ball at every opportunity. Paul Doherty put Malin 7 points in front after been released by a Brendan McGonigle hand pass. Shaun Kelly knocked over an amazing point from a very acute angle. Martin Lafferty scored his first point of the game and this was closely followed by a Brendan McGonigle-point after Martin Lafferty dispossessed his man. Malin were cruising at this stage and Danny Lafferty pointed when Patrick Doherty broke down an Urris attack and fed Paul Doherty who in turn found Danny Lafferty. Paul Doherty increased Malin's lead with a well taken score. Patrick Kelly brought the scoring to an end when he got his name on the score sheet in stoppage time.
