Martin Luther King

Martin Luther King was born on the 15th of January 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1947 Martin Luther King was ordained into the Baptist church. While in Boston, he met Coretta Scott of Marion, Alabama. They were married in June 1953. The following year 1954 he was appointed to his first ministry at Dexter Avenue a Baptist church in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1956 Martin Luther King lead a 381 day boycott of Montgomerey city buses.
In 1963 He delivered “I Have a Dream" speech to over 250,000 people in Washington .D.C.. These are only a few of the words he said, “I still have a dream it is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal”
On Febuary 10th 1965 Martin Luther King organized a demonstration in Selma , Alabama, to assert the right of blacks in the region to vote. On December the 10th 1965 Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel peace prize for all his good work.
On April the 4th 1968 Martin Luther King stepped outside on to his balcony for a breath of fresh air before dinner. As he leaned over the balcony to talk to his friend Jesse Jackson, a shot was fired at him from down below. He was rushed to St.Joseph's hospital but died with out regaining consciousness. It was a day that Coretta Scott King had feared and that he had said would happen. The police blamed it on a lone gunman called James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray was staying at a boarding house near the Lorraine Motel. James Earl Ray was eventually arrested at Heathrow Airport London, in June. He was returned to the United States and pleaded guilty to the killing he was then sentenced to life imprisonment. Just before his death in 1998 he told a television interviewer “I was not the trigger man. I didn’t know anything about the killing. Kings widow continues to campaign for an investigation to reveal her husbands real killer.
