Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong  was  born  in 1930 he was an American  astronaut. He lived in Ohio. He served as a pilot in the United States Navy during the Korean war. The Americans built the worlds biggest rocket. It was called Saturn V and was 110 metres high .In July 1969 Saturn v blasted off from Cape Canaveral.

Saturn V carried three astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins into orbit around the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin then landed the Lunar Module on the Moon while Collins stayed in orbit. After twenty one hours, the two men blasted off in part of the Lunar Module and linked up again with Collins.

The three Apollo astronauts lived and worked in this pressurized Command Module during most off their Moon flight. It was the only part of the Saturn rocket to return to Earth. At the end of the journey, the astronauts floated down by parachute in the command Module and landed in the Pacific.

After graduating 1955 from Purdue University he joined the National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA then know as the National Advisory committee for Aeronautics, serving as a test pilot at Edward Force Base. In 1962 he served as a pilot in the United States Navy.

In July 1968 Armstrong as commander of the Apollo 11 lunar mission became the first person to stand on the moon.
