BELLRINGING

(campanology)

Bellringing is an activity pursued by a number of dedicated individuals. Bells are rung mainly to call people to church but are also rung for a variety of other reasons Christmas and New-Year are of course special times for all and we always try to ensure that the bells welcome The Lord and the New-Year. We in Mount St. Alphonsus are one of Irelands foremost bellringing bands having won the Cherry Cup (southern district) and Murphy Cup (All-Ireland) for a record number of times. We ring at 11.30 each Sunday for Sunday Mass and also at 19.30 on Monday nights which is our practice night. There are a second peal of bells in Limerick located in St. Mary`s Cathedral (C of E) on Bridge St. and we regularly assist each other in making sure that the faithful are called to service.
