Over 50 years ago there were two clubs in the parish of Newmarket. The Clonmoney Club, which was formed in the autumn of 1947, held meetings and club activities including lectures and dancing at Firgrove House. Members also participate at county level in competitions such as stockjudging. In 1949 through the generosity of Mr. P Normoyle (R.I.P) who advanced the purchase price and Mr. J Melody who gave a site the club acquired their own premises known as The Hut measuring about 50 feet by 20 feet. Here the members enjoyed activities including 45 card drives, Billiards and dancing. The first A.G.M of the Newmarket Club was held on Monday 20th March 1950 in the Technical School. Members attended a series of lectures and films dealing with agriculture. In the 1950’s and 60’s the club was extremely busy each year with the organisation of the annual Gymkhana. Over the years the clubs merged and we have grown and evolved into what is now the 45 member Newmarket-on-fergus Club.

In recent years, the club has had success at county level in various competitions including, stockjudging, Quizzes, debating, Miss Macra, Ideal Bachelor, Queen of the land, farm skills, hurling and various categories in the Dublin City Talent Competition.
