LITE BIDS Three different radio groups have made bids to buy a majority shareholding in Lite FM, the Dublin-based easy-listening station, according to today's Sunday Tribune. The station's Managing Director, Martin Block, confirmed that the approaches had been made but did not reveal the identity of the bidders nor the amounts offered. He did say that discussions are ongoing and that - although Lite FM would prefer to build it's own Irish radio group - if someone offered the shareholders a huge amount of money it would be hard for them not to accept.

CRY 107.2 Community Radio Youghal (C.R.Y.) in Co. Cork has moved to its new frequency of 107.2MHz as required by the ODTR due to "re-planning of the FM band". Transmissions will continue on the old CRY frequency of 105.1MHz for a few days, where nnouncements will urge listeners to retune to the new frequency. CRY had been on 105.1 since being licenced in 1995.

BCI TO ALLOW FULL OWNERSHIP In a policy document released today, the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has said that it would now consider allowing 100% ownership of radio stations, but only where all the other criteria set out in its policy were met. In addition, a single operator is now permitted to own up to 15% of the country's radio stations. Previously, no single company or individual was allowed own over 46% of a local radio station and no existing radio operator could own more than 27% of a station.
