Lounge

Our Lounge 5.96 kbThe lounge we designed to be as light and airy as possible having moved from an old dark house with very small windows. In our original plans, we had decided on a balcony over half the lounge but that went by the board when we reviewed our costings. That didn't mean we were going to lose our vaulted ceiling. Having lived my life in old houses with low ceilings I was not going to bang my head in this one. This was the part of the new extension that our builder concentrated on first, as we wanted to live in this one room whilst we gutted the rest of the old cottage. It was frantic at times, with me re-wiring the house and extension before ceilings and walls were even put up. It became a rush towards the end as our builder couldn't be hurried even when we only had a few days before we turned up with a furniture lorry!
Two rooms out of one 9.64 kbThe day arrived and we finally moved into our "lounge". It was strange having the contents of a four bedroom house in one room but we managed. We had intended to divide the large lounge into two seperate rooms but again, we had to wait for that untill we could finish the kitchen/dining room and use that as our "storage area" for a while. Finally the day came and a partition was errected. As we had designed the room with 10 feet high ceilings, it was quite a task but the finished result was well worth it. In the design of the partition we incorporated several niches that are about 6" deep and will be display cases. One large alcove over the door was built to take "Old Horny", a sculpture I made from an Ivy branch several years ago and who has become part of the family now.

The partition wall 4.89 kb Because we intended to live, and store everything in this room, we didn't install the wooden floor in case it became damaged. No nails in my floor 5.18 kb
