There's no going back now

They just had to go 7.36 kb"If only we had a barn or a shed then we could store all this rubbish."

Have you ever wondered what it's like to have too many barns? Well we had that problem and worse still, they were in our way. The hay-sheds were so close to the house that we couldn't build the extension without first taking down a barn or two.
Enter three very brave/stupid men, and within a weekend that barn you would love to have was down and ready to go to a new home. The only problem then was that the view had improved so much that we said "If we took down that other barn, then we could see all the way across the valley" And so it was decided, one barn out of the three was all we needed and that was what we ended up with.
Oh and by the way, you know that rubbish that you would have put into the barn?. Well someone did! The rest of the week was spent going back and forwards to the tip with trailer loads of rubbish.

Look what they did to my Barn! 8.33 kbNow we could start in earnest. With space to build the extension it was time to get the builders to quote for the work. Armed with copies of our plans we sought out every builder we could find and asked for quotes for the new extension. We were advised to "Knock it down and start again" and that was what we did. A JCB made very short work of the old barn, and we stood back and thought "there's no going back now" It was an astute builder who suggested to us that rather than trying to dispose of tons of rubble and stone which would cost a fortune to transport, use it to raise the level of the ground. (our land slopes quite a lot)
The pile of rubble was duly moved aside and a 12" wide "dead wall" was built to the required floor level and it was then in-filled with the pile of stones. This was to become the 4ft high foundations for the new extension and brought it's own problems.....
