The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

- Fellowship of the Ring

TODAY IN MIDDLE-EARTH
September 21, 3021, S.R. 1421
Frodo and Samwise set out from Hobbiton. Rose and little Elanor remain at Bag End.
"On September the twenty-first they set out together, Frodo on the pony that had borne him all the way from Minas Tirith, and was now called Strider; and Sam on his beloved Bill. It was a fair golden morning, and Sam did not ask where they were going: he thought he could guess. They took the Stock Road over the hills and went towards the Woody End, and they let their ponies walk at their leisure."

WHAT'S NEW: UPDATE HISTORY

March 26 1999: Moving News

As many of you will be aware, the Middle-earth team is in the process of moving from Yosemite to the Seattle area. Alas! we are unable to significantly update this site during the transition. Rest assured that the Middle-earth project is alive and well.

We hope to resume regular updates with a major site update in late April or early May. Thank you for your patience, and may your shadow never grow less.

February 1 1999: Mirkwood and Contest

With the new year we come to the Forest of the Greenleaves, better known as Mirkwood- 'The greatest of the forests of the Northern world.'

As usual, there are two new Ships departing from The Grey Havens.

Debuting also this month we have the tremendous Tolkien Trivia Contest. You will need to Register to participate in this opportunity to win some of our Mathoms.

December 18 1998: Rivendell

December brings Rivendell to Middle-earth.com. “A refuge for the weary and the oppressed, and a treasury of good counsel and wise lore."

As usual, this month we have introduced two new Ships in which to sail away from Middle-earth.

A new Mathom is available for your immediate download, namely, The Middle-earth Theme Pack.

November 16 1998: Bree opens

We are pleased to introduce the rich region of Bree and its surroundings to www.middle-earth.com. You can also find some answers to new questions in the FAQ, new areas in The Shire and other improvements too diverse to list.

You have our profuse apologies for the tardiness of this update. We hope to roll out more regular updates in future, but our task of building Middle-earth is very time-consuming. To receive email news of updates, Register with Middle-earth.com.

Also make sure you visit the Mathom House in The Shire for news about unexpected birthday presents.

September 22 1998: Welcome to Middle-earth.com

September 22, the date of the "long-expected party" celebrating the birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. To honor and commemorate these two doughty hobbits we have chosen this special date to open our website to the world.

Middle-earth.com launches with two nascent areas; The Grey Havens and The Shire.

Over the coming weeks and months we shall be adding more areas as we develop the game, building in time a great Atlas for Middle-earth on-line. Check back often.
