Welcome to The Shire

I am Beregond the Hobbit, son of Ordelred, son of Adelbard, son of Faramir of Tuckborough. I am descended from Peregrin Took, the Great Thain and Hero of the Battle of Bywater, I'll have you know.

Though my name is Beregond, a noble name of Gondor, I have been dubbed Brago since childhood and you can call me thus. This is not uncommon for the Tooks, who are given high names and then adopt suitable brevities as soon as possible.

My folk have lived in Tuckborough for many years, but I have myself recently removed to Hobbiton, to be closer to my friends.

The Shire is a fine place, untroubled by any darkness. The Spring is bright and green, the Autumn red and gold.

Over the coming months I will be happy to tell you more about The Shire and its surroundings.

"Bilbo used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river, its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary. 'It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door,' he used to say. 'You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.'"
