Site Safety Policy and Practices

Ward & Burke Construction Policy is that work will comply with statutory provisions and all reasonable practicable measures will be taken to avoid risk to employees or others.

Management and supervisory staff are responsible for implementing this Policy throughout the company. They must ensure that health and safety considerations are given priority in planning and day to day supervision of work.

All employees and sub-contractors are expected to co-operate in implementing this Policy and must carry out their own work, so far as is reasonably practicable, without risk to themselves or others.

The objectives of our Safety Policy are:
• The prevention of personal injury
• The prevention of property and environmental damage
• That safety priorities are laid down
• That safety systems are monitored and updated on a regular basis

Operation of this Policy will be monitored by the management and staff. Intergrated Risk Solutions Ltd are employed as independent safety supervisors to visit all sites and workplaces and to advise on the relevant statutory provisions and safety matters generally.

This statement of Company Policy will be displayed prominently at all sites and workplaces.

The organisation and arrangement for implementing the Policy is also available at each site and workplace for reference to by any employee.

Safety Practices
A site specific Health and Safety Plan is drawn up for each contract, which outlines the requirements and procedures to be followed, with respect to health, safety and welfare on that particular site. This plan delegates specific duties and responsibilities to site personnel with regard to risk associated with the project.

The company safety officer and safety consultant monitors safety issues throughout the duration of the works by carrying out regular site inspections and audits. The site management and personnel must undertake immediate remedial action based upon recommendations made by the safety officer/safety consultant.

Site inductions are conducted for all employees, by the site management, outlining the site safety rules, emergency procedures and particular risks. Toolbox talks are carried out regularly for all company and subcontracted employees.

Staff members have completed various safety related training including CIF 'managing safely in construction', FÁS Safepass and Occupational First Aid. All site employees have completed the FÁS safepass health and safety awareness-training programme.

Members of our workforce are also trained in confined space entry and have achieved plant operative CSCS training as required. Suitable training is provided for any other specialised training as required as the need arises.

The selection of sub-contractors takes into account their safety statement, accident record and previous performance with respect to accident and ill-health prevention on site.

Ward and Burke Construction operates all works in compliance with the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2001, Health, Safety and Welfare at Work act 1989 and Health, Safety and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 1993 and are familiar with our duties/obligations under this legislation.
